Medicare Part D Plans in Arizona

Medicare Part D helps pay for outpatient prescription drugs through Medicare-approved private plans.

If you use Original Medicare, you can generally purchase stand-alone Part D coverage. Most Medicare Advantage plans include Medicare drug coverage within the Medicare Advantage plan itself.

Your best Part D comparison starts with your prescriptions—not with the plan name or premium.

Arizona Part D in 2026

CMS’s 2026 state landscape reported 10 stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plans available in Arizona and stated that all Arizona Medicare beneficiaries had access to Medicare prescription drug coverage.

Statewide availability does not tell you which option fits your prescriptions or circumstances. Use Medicare Plan Finder and current plan documents for the plan year you are comparing.

Start with your exact prescriptions

Every Medicare drug plan maintains a formulary, or list of covered drugs.

Plans can cover the same prescription differently, including different:

  • tiers
  • copayments
  • coinsurance
  • prior-authorization rules
  • step-therapy requirements
  • quantity limits

Medicare requires Part D plans to cover a broad range of drugs, but each plan has its own formulary within those requirements.

Check the exact drug name, dosage and quantity.

Pharmacy choice can change your cost

Part D plans use pharmacy networks.

Some plans designate preferred in-network pharmacies, which may result in lower member cost sharing than other network pharmacies.

Out-of-network pharmacy use can create substantially different costs and reimbursement rules.

A useful comparison should therefore include the pharmacies you actually expect to use.

Do not rank plans by premium alone

A lower-premium plan can still cost more overall if:

  • one of your prescriptions is on a less favorable tier
  • your preferred pharmacy is not preferred
  • coinsurance is higher
  • a deductible applies differently
  • a drug is not covered
  • utilization-management requirements create problems

Compare estimated annual prescription cost, not simply monthly premium.

What is the best Part D plan in Arizona?

There is no single Part D plan that is best for every Arizona beneficiary.

The most useful comparison uses:

  • your prescriptions
  • dosage and quantity
  • formulary coverage
  • drug tiers
  • prior authorization
  • step therapy
  • quantity limits
  • pharmacy network
  • premium
  • deductible and expected cost sharing

Then repeat the comparison each year because formularies, pharmacies and costs can change.

Extra Help

Medicare’s Extra Help program can reduce prescription-drug costs for qualifying people with limited income and resources.

Arizona SHIP can also help Medicare beneficiaries understand assistance programs and coverage options.

Arizona Medicare Savings Programs

Medicare Savings Programs through AHCCCS are separate from Part D plan selection.

If you have limited income, it is worth checking whether you qualify for QMB, SLMB or QI and whether you may also qualify for other assistance with prescription costs.

Use the Wise Owl Part D checklist

Before comparing plans, prepare your prescriptions and pharmacies privately using the existing Part D checklist.
